Environmental Lecture hosted by St. John Constituency Council
Tuesday, 14 May 2013 12:55

On Sunday May 5th, 2013, Council Member and Environmental Assistant, Eldona Reid held an informative and well received lecture on Leptospirosis and Dengue and the pests which caused/ carried these illnesses ( the rat and mosquito).

The session was attended by nineteen (19) persons at the St. Gabriel’s Church in Kendal, St. John from 5:30- 7:15 pm. Persons in attendance included demographics such as both male and females as well as teenagers and more mature adults.

Questions asked included; How to identify the Aedes Egypti Mosquito, How to handle the issues of rats and even went on to ask about other health issues pertaining to ‘Cow-itch’ upon property and ways to approach such potential hazards.

This lecture is indeed timely and helpful as the country just ended its Sugar Cane Harvest and begins to enter into its Rainy/ Hurricane Season, times of the year when these household pests are most rampant. Additionally, in recent times there has been an apparent increased in the number of deaths related to these pests.

More lectures are being scheduled to take throughout the parish to make residents more cautious and aware for themselves, loved ones and properties.
