St Michael North Members Making Their Presence Felt
Monday, 19 April 2010 10:11
michaelwestpresencefelt004Like the other five established Councils, members of The St Michael North Constituency Council have been busy making their presence felt among constituents.

A number of planned activities involving community members have taken place since July, and the Council is now focused on up-coming programmes.

According to Chairperson Jacqueline Agard, a Home Work Supervision Youth Assistance Learning Experience Programme will be launched on January 7, at the Soroptimist Village, Eden Lodge, St. Michael. The actual programme, which will cater to Class Two and Three students preparing for the Eleven Plus Common Entrance Examination, will commence on January 9.

Under this programme, the older children in the community, along with professional teachers, will assist the younger children with the mathematics and English, as they prepare to enter secondary school. The programme, which will be ongoing, will cater to 50 students.

"We're making the Eden Lodge community the pilot project, then we will go to various areas within the constituency," explains Agard.

She further disclosed that the Council "is working to revive sports and social clubs in the constituency to get them up and running on their own."

In addition, a survey is currently being carried out on vulnerable persons within the constituency so that Council members would have an informed list of those who may need assistance in case of emergency.

"We are also seeking to discover all the vulnerable places within the community, and to this end, we have started a resource directory of churches, schools, and those persons with special trades so we can make any necessary referrals," Agard discloses.

Already the Council has assisted the Eden Lodge and Lodge Hill community with their Independence Day activities and is keen on establishing strong relationships with all community-based groups and organisations.
