Dr. B. Ivan Henry, OBE.
Dr. Ivan HenryDr. Ivan Henry brings to the team a unique combination of academic understanding and practical involvement in the developmental process. He was trained as a Sociologist at the Universities of London, Birmingham and Warwick up to doctoral level. While in England he also pursued a career as Educator at both secondary and tertiary institutions. Following an internment at the Federal Department of Commerce in Washington DC he completed an MBA on returning to England. He later established a community-based organization that taught life skills, vocational skills and enterprise to disadvantaged members of society in England. In 1989 he got national recognition, in the form of an OBE for his pioneering work in poor communities.

In 1991 Dr. Henry returned to the Caribbean as the Regional Director of the Commonwealth Youth Programme. His track record of policy formulation and programme implementation is renowned throughout the region. He made a significant contribution to the formulation of National Youth Policies and the establishment of Divisions of Youth Affairs in many countries of the Caribbean including Barbados.

Ivan Henry currently works as Consultant to several Governments of the Caribbean and head of an NGO called Homevillage Development Foundation that is exploring and testing various models of socio-economic development. He has cultivated an extensive network of local and international contacts with access to information and other resources essential for national and regional development.

Ivan Henry is the author of a novel entitled The Gaulin and the Dove (Heinemann 2008) that is set in pre-Independence Barbados. It discusses the importance of the community in raising children and delivering services to its members.
